Your Front Porch
To The Outback.

“Barkala” Farm was originally bought and settled in 1986 by Maria and Richard Rickert, two German immigrants who hoped to create a new life and home in the Australian bush for their growing family. Many years later it has been transformed into Pilliga Pottery Creative Farmstay, a tourist destination with an on-site Cafe serving delicious meals.

Maria and her family couldn’t have done this without the generous support of family, skilled local craftsman, friends, backpackers and volunteers. We’d like to invite you to come and experience a slice of our wonderful life in the bush.

You’ll find our oasis at the end of a 10km dirt road! Check conditions here. The road adds to the adventure and serves as our boundary to the outer world.

Hope to see you soon,

“Barkala” is the traditional name of our land a 12000 acre working farm.

Once you move away from the buildings and the bustle of the pottery, you can enjoy the beautiful and breathtaking quietness of the Pilliga bush. Explore the incredible variety of flora and fauna our farm has to offer. We have established scenic bush walking tracks on our property for our visitors to enjoy.

Kerry Lowe, a very knowledgeable local bush walker, has put years of hard work into finding and making trails to the best lookouts, rock formations and caves on our property, and also designed our bush walking maps. Kerry and his trusty volunteers have also mounted bush walking signs along the way to make it easy to explore.
